April showers bring May flowers...along with butterflies and birds! Here in the Northern Hemisphere, it's spring time and we have been waiting all winter long to see those beautiful butterflies and hear those majestic birds.     In our Nature is Neat - Monarch Butterfly guide, your little ones will start off learning all about the monarch butterfly and their interesting migratory flight pattern. Because the monarch population is in danger, we also put together a list of things your kiddos can do to help save the monarchs!After learning a few new words (such as nectar, host plant and what tagging entails) you'll read a poem and then dive into the hands-on activities. From making your own seed bombs, to a fun science experiment that helps kids learn about the monarch's eating habits, we have it all! There are also additional activities for younger ones and older ones depending on your child's age and interest level. To wrap it all up, there is a section to recap all they have learned and brainstorm more ways to help the monarchs. Last but certainly not least, is a book and video resource section - perfect for those who want to dive further into the topic at hand.

      In our Nature is Neat - Monarch Life Cycle guide, the kiddos will learn all about the monarch's circle of life, from caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly. The guide starts off with some fun facts about monarchs, followed by a deeper look into each stage of their life cycle. The activities in this guide include going on a monarch hunt outside to look for eggs, milkweed, and monarchs among other things! We also have a fun, interactive way for them to remember the different phases of metamorphosis. They will even be able to create their own poem. We end our learning guide with a list of amazing resources and book ideas.

        Did you know Hummingbirds are the only bird that can fly backwards and their eggs are the size of a jelly bean? We kick off Our Nature is Neat - Backyard Bird Guide with a few fun facts like this one. Next, we teach the kiddos how we can keep backyard birds safe from threatening elements (Did you know the bird populations have drastically decreased in recent years?). After learning a few new words, the kids will have a few fun activities to do, including making a life-sized bird nest! They will move on to a worksheet, where they will label all the proper body parts of a bird. Last but not least, like all of our guides, we end it with a well thought out book list and resources to further their love and knowledge for backyard birds.
